EDUCATION (I)

I've been studying for more than 20 years. The biggest part of my life, until present, I'm a student, in kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, college, & university. I do enjoy student life, but sometimes studying can be very stressful. To achieve good grades is not only to answer to yourself, but also to be able to answer to your parents, your family members, your neighbours, your friends & etc. This is because there are just way too many busy-bodies around us!!! We are now not only responsible to ourselves, but also to everyone around us. We study to make them happy!!! We do not know the importance of education!!!

However, will education bring us happiness in future? How important is it? I'm not sure. Education is just a stepping stone on our way to success. Education does not ONLY exist in schools, we are constantly learning something in our daily routine, it depends on whether you realise it. The process of learning is equally important as education. We learned, we developed.

EARTH HOUR. Merely gimmick or really doable?

This was a global event in order to create awareness to the people about the changes of the climate, how much we have been wasting the energy by turning-on non-essential electrical wares. Did it work?

When I was half-way typing this post, I switched off the lights & fan, not because I wasted energy by turning them on, it's because I have to had the "Earth Hour" kind of feeling. I felt so hot & uneasy...

On 28th March 2009, 8.30pm-9.30pm, I didn't see any difference at my neighbourhood. Embarrassingly, I didn't see any difference in my own house. I turned off the lights in my room, but only my room. Probably the awareness did not get into the heart or mind of the people!? My mum said, 'Earth Hour campaign is just a gimmick, by turning off the lights for 1 hour will not change the people's mindset to go green.' I truly understand what she meant. People loves event. it's like a PARTY to them! Everything can be celebrated. Every day can be a count-down-day. Therefore, personally I think, it's more to a business gimmick, then an environmental-friendly awareness campaign.

However, I don't mean that this event was unsuccessful. Hopefully, the awareness to save energy & to prevent any abnormal climate changes WILL NOT STOP/END after 9.30pm of 28.03.2009. Lights are important, to allow us to see better to protect our eye-sight. Fan is important too, so that we won't feel hot & eventually affect our emotion (sometimes people do get angry easily due to hot weather!!). Switch the lights off if your room is bright enough & it doesn't hurt your eye-sight; switch the fan off if the day is windy.

Do something for your children & yourself. LOVE THE MOTHER EARTH!

SEAT BELTS, ANYONE?

Does anyone know what is the main purpose of a seat belt in our car?

Seat belt is sometimes called a safety belt, which means it's main purpose is safety purpose (duh!). But how come drivers are still not keen to put their seat belts on? Have they neglected their own safety as well as the safety of the other road users?

There is this new rule, "Buckle-up your rear seat belt!", how many of us have actually followed this rule? I did, I do & I'll still do it! There are many reasons of me buckling the seat belt while I'm in the rear seat, mainly because I do not wish to be fined, I do not wish to be stopped by the traffic police.

Recently, I've been stopped by a police because my friends sitting at the rear seats "forgot" to buckle up their seat belts. We weren't fined, the police was being very kind-hearted to us, he just gave us a warning & let us go. I have had a high blood pressure due to this!!! I was afraid that we would be fined, & I was not happy because I have warned my friends about this before the journey. I can't say that I follow law completely, but I'll try my best to prevent being stopped by policemen, on the road. This is because I don't feel good being stopped & interrogated, I felt like a criminal!!! (Ok, this might sound a little exaggerated...)

Most importantly, I do not wish to endanger my life as well as the lives of my loved ones, & other road users, of course. (Hokkien may called it 'kia su' & 'kia si')

Unfortunately, there are still SO MANY drivers who do not buckle up their own driver-seat-belt while driving. If their children are to be seated at the rear seats seeing their parents not buckling up the front seat belts, will the children buckle up their rear seat belts? NO WAY!

SAVE LIVES! Buckle up your seat belts, be considerate to ALL road users, including your loved ones & yourself.

NOISE

Are you living in a noisy surrounding? If you are, how do you manage to cope with it? Do you confront the person making noise to shut-up or lower their volume? Or do you just keep quite & ignore? Or do you walk to that person & whack him up? Neither of these is a good idea.

I have had an experience of confronting someone whom constantly creating nuisance using her honk from her car. She would honk in her car signaling someone inside her office to open the office door for her before she gets down from her car. This had been happening for months, so one day I've decided to confront her, hoping that she would not honk in future. Unfortunately, she being unable to counter what I've said to her, dragged her husband into our conversation. Her husband, behaving as an "uneducated barbarian", scolded me & my mum using obscene language. The honk did not stop until recently.

Why can't people be more considerate? Why can't we be thoughtful for those around us? Give a little, & you might get more, unexpectedly.

STOP THE NOISE! You do not like to be irritated by noise, what's makes you think that the others like it?
